Why do you take calcium supplements? Why do you take any vitamin and mineral supplements at all? Why do you eat a low cholesterol and low fat diet? Why do you exercise? Why do you teach your kids responsibility?
Were your answers to the above questions to “prevent” something? In other words, were your answers:
1 To prevent osteoporosis
2 So I won’t get sick
3 So I won’t have a heart attack or stroke
4 To keep from being overweight
5 To keep them from getting into trouble later in life
Many people live in the “prevention mindset.” What I mean by this is that most of the things they do are designed to prevent something bad from happening. While at first this does not seem to be a bad thing, I would like to help you see that living this way will also actually prevent you from reaching your potential in life.
The prevention mindset only does one thing…it prevents you from dying. Is that what the purpose of your life is…to NOT DIE?
I believe we have all come to this Earth with a specific purpose and a potential for expressing that purpose. I also believe we should all do our best to be our best in each present moment. That does NOT mean “living to not die!”
Take your calcium, but take it to be stronger! Take other supplements to continually strengthen your immune and all the other systems of your body! Eat a low carbohydrate, whole food diet so that your body and mind will be sharp! And, exercise so that the vehicle you have to express your purpose (your body) will be in tip top shape to carry out your mission! Teach your kids responsibility so that they will understand how important they are to the world!
Do you see the difference in thinking? One way of thinking simply keeps things from getting bad, and the other keeps you growing better and stronger. I know this may sound like semantics, but it really isn’t! In one scenario, we are simply trying to keep the room from getting dark. In the other, we are constantly helping the light shine brighter and brighter!
Most people’s goal with all of the things I have mentioned above is “optimal health.” BUT, as I’ve said, our bodies are vehicles for us to express our potential and our purpose as completely as possible in each present moment. This does not END with optimal health, rather it BEGINS with optimal health! Only once we are healthy can we begin the important work of fulfilling our life missions with any real degree of success.
So now, I have one last question for you. Why do you and your family get adjusted? Is it to get rid of a certain problem? Is it to make sure that bad things don’t happen? Or, is it because you want to make sure you all have the best chance of being your best in every aspect of your lives?
